The Spear system can be used on lightweight combat vehicles.
Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) has announced that it will exhibit its latest autonomous Recoil Mortar System (RMS) for lightweight 4x4 combat vehicles, Soltam Spear, at the 3rd International Fire Conference, held May 10-22, 2014, at "Home of the Gunners" in Zichron Ya'akov, Israel.
According to Elbit, the technology in the advanced second generation RMS reduces 120mm gun barrel firing recoil loads from 30 to less than 10 tons, making it usable on Light Combat Vehicles (LCVs), such as Humvees and Jeeps. This makes infantry forces more maneuverable, as it delivers immediate indirect artillery support for effectively engaging a wide range of targets.
