The Israeli government plans to introduce a
contactless fare-payment system for all public
transit in the country, and Israel-based On Track
Innovations Ltd. has received a contract to
supply contactless smart cards for use in the
program. Ohad Bashan, president and CEO of OTI
America, OTI's U.S. subsidiary said that the
program will enable passengers to use the same
card to pay fares on Egged, Israel's largest bus
company; Dan, the bus company that serves the
central area; and Israel Railways, the country's
national train system. Bashan adda that the
government hopes to integrate the planned future
light-rail systems in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem into
the program as well.
